Life insurance — cover the family, not the salesman

The cheapest policy is usually the right one. That is why it is rarely the one you are sold.

  • Term plans and traditional plans quoted side by side
  • Cover amount worked out from your actual obligations, not a sales target
  • Accidental death and critical illness riders priced separately
  • Premiums payable yearly, half-yearly or monthly

Most life insurance sold in India mixes cover with investment, which produces a policy that is expensive as cover and poor as investment. A plain term plan does one job — it pays your family a large sum if you die — and it does it for a fraction of the premium.

We will quote both so you can see the difference for yourself, and we will tell you honestly which one we think you need.

Life Insurance — common questions

How much life cover do I actually need?

A workable rule is ten to fifteen times your annual income, plus every outstanding loan, minus what you already have saved. The point is that your family can clear the debts and still live on what remains.

Term plan or an endowment policy?

If the goal is protecting your family, term wins on every measure — the same premium buys many times the cover. Endowment and money-back plans bundle a modest return into the premium and give you far less protection for it. Buy term, and invest the difference separately.

What gets a life insurance claim rejected?

Almost always a non-disclosure at proposal stage — a health condition, a tobacco habit, an existing policy or real income not declared. Fill the form yourself, answer everything truthfully, and never let an agent complete it for you.
